Some beach lovers enjoy a beautiful day in the Mediterranean.

In relation to the theme of Zalul’s newly released video with Billabong, statistics are starting to improve. There were 63 beach closings in 2007 while there were only 25 closings this year and 19  last year. This brings beach closings down by 65% in the past 2 years!

Although numbers are going down, the situation is far from perfect and there is still a lot that can be done to improve the water pollution. From the beaches of Herzliya & Tel Aviv to the Dead Sea & Eilat, some beaches have been closed for as long as a month due to raw sewage flowing into the sea.

How can you help lower or eventually eliminate the number of beach closings each year? Stop littering, pick up trash when you see it on the beach, don’t just throw anything down the toilet or drain as many substances end up in the sea, and spread the word – just to name a few.

For more information on the beach closings, we recommend this great article from the Jerusalem Post.
