Israel joins the CIESM JellyWatch Program: Monitoring jellyfish swarms along Mediterranean coastlines and in the open sea.

The Israel Oceanographic and Limnological Research (IOLR) Institute has joined up with the Mediterranean Science Commission to institute “JellyWatch”, a monitoring and documentation program for tracking invasive and non-invasive jellyfish species along the Mediterranean Coast and in the open sea.

IOLR staff are visiting beaches to distribute posters detailing common and invasive species of the stinging, gelatinous marine animals to beach managers, fishermen, diving club members, boat owners and private individuals.

They will ask them to report sightings of jellyfish and similar marine animals to the Haifa-based institute.
